What is Paracentesis?

Paracentesis is a minimally invasive procedure to help remove ascites (excess abdominal fluid) from the peritoneal cavity (inside the abdomen). A needle/catheter is inserted into the abdomen and then the excess fluid is removed. Varies how often a paracentesis is needed and how much fluid is removed.

What is Thoracentesis?

Thoracentesis is minimally invasive procedure to help remove pleural effusion (excess fluid) from the pleural space (space between lungs and chest wall). Varies how often a thoracentesis is needed. The goal is to remove the fluid from the lungs that will help you breath better.
